Blazing. That’s how it’s been going. While working out some possible dates for the next shoot for my commercial client early next year, things for the short film have been falling like dominoes. Found some more good equipment for sale on eBay, was in touch with one of the folks with another location I’d love to include in the short, might have found the perfect spot to shoot the material I’m planning to add to The Bunker, and the only drawback is that my new film look contact actually snagged himself ajob out west and is planning on moving right after the first of the year. The door’ll still remain open, he’s a good guy and I wouldn’t want to write him off just because I’ve had too many hassles and delays working cross-country before, but we’ll see. He recommended a couple of guys he knos out here, although nobody with the killer set-up he’s got. We’ll see how it plays out once I get the footage in the can. It’s only a few minutes, but a significant few minutes, so I’m not banking on the process being *too* much of a hassle, but still, all things considered, my preference is to keep my production local from here on in, which should eliminate a lot of my headaches. Lot easier when you can make a phone call and drive across town, or even back to Miami, than having to wait for one piece of work to come in from one state, and another piece to come in sending files back and forth via FTP, or being too far to adequately oversee what’s going on. Miami is one thing, I can be there in two and a half hours and get exactly what I want. That’s how I’m gonna play it for the next couple of projects.
WORD, for some reason, has magically begun working right again. I have no idea why, nor how long it’ll last, but at least it’s meant I can resume the editing, while Pam has located our upgrade disc (I’ve been using the 2003 version for the longest time, but it’s gotten to the point I need to upgrade), so hopefully that’ll add to the streamlining. I’ve been working on that a lot the past seven or eight weeks. Streamlining things. Trying to make my life easier so the creative projects aren’t held up by other bullshit. Like WORD’s spellchecking dictionary taking a dump and failing to work 2/3 of the way through a 500 page novel. Or delays I can’t control holding me back on one thing or another. Or not having the right tools for the right jobs—like writing the new screenplay. Software, shipping, people, procrastination…dumping as much of it as I can prior to starting off 2009. Especially now that I have one commercial client in house and another one sniffing around, a video project for a band, the short film, the novel, a new portfolio to unleash on the comic book market, my feature film to sell, the new anthology I’ve been invited to contribute to, the introduction to my friend Alex’s new book…and that’s just what I have pencilled in on the calendar for January thru April, prior to the Chiller convention, which I do not plan on missing again.
Oh, and there is a *huge* announcement forthcoming, probably early next year, that trumps all of that, which I’ve been spending time getting lined up.
But more on that when the time is right. For now, it’s back to the grind…lotta writin’ needs to be done before Thursday Night Football.
