Despite having to get up early this week for dog-walking duty, things’ve
been going outrageously well. Sitting with two new freelances I snagged, and
just got the purchase agreement for a piece I turned in less than a week
ago. Plus, looks like one of my stories is going to be reprinted in a
retrospective mag, and that’s gonna bring in some decent coin, too.

Got a request for an interview that came as a result of my appearance on the
THWIPT radio program two Thursdays back, where I made the announcement
concerning Visions of Sarah. Always happy to be asked for an interview,
means somebody else is helping to spread the word and I don’t have to bust
my balls to find another outlet.

Speaking of Visions, I was practically giddy earlier this week when the
producer I’m working with on it informed me that the script was being handed
off to a true Hollywood horror legend. This guy’s been making movies
forever, and it’s freaking *killing* me not being able to name-drop just
yet. I’m pretty anxious to hear what he thinks of the script, positive or
negative. Thus far, key people from flicks like One Hour Photo, The
Woodsman, Chainsaw Sally, SIGNS and The Sixth Sense have seen the script,
and everybody’s been impressed by it. I’ve mentioned it before, but what the
hell, I think I can be forgiven the occasional ego-stroke. M. Night
Shyamalan’s editor on one of his biggest grossing films wants us to get the
script into Scott Rudin’s hands. Scott “No Country For Old Men” best picture
Rudin. That still blows my mind.

So, even if the guy reading the script now turns around and rips it to
shreds, that’s okay. I’d be cool with it. Nobody bats a thousand. It’s the
fact that a guy with his pedigree is sitting with my script in his hands
that’s important. At this point, with a deal in place, so many folks have
read the script that I don’t need any further validation. So far, everybody’s
been very positive about it. Now, it’s the level of people I’m reaching
with it. The top-shelfers of the industry who are seeing the work and
commenting on it. Each time somebody like this tells the production team
what they think and word filters back to me, well, it sure makes it easier
to get up at 7 even if the mutt doesn’t want to go out just yet. Because,
getting back in front of the keyboard and banging away? Always a pleasure
when you’re charged up by compliments from other professionals.

This morning? I am supercharged like I’ve got nitrous pumping through my
veins, along with the adrenaline. And it’s time to upshift into 5th…
